2D Animation - Motion Graphics
#amphibian project, a case study

Client: Zinnov Management Consulting
Duration: We had around 50 days to ideate, plan and execute.
Objective: To bridge the gap between art and technology, creating a meaningful experience that speaks to both artists and tech-savvy audiences.
Challenge:
-
Art vs. Tech Dichotomy: Addressing the barriers that exist between the artistic and technological communities.
-
Dual Audience Engagement: Crafting a narrative and experience that makes both artists and techies think about the future that lies ahead and how we are coping with it in present.
-
AR Complexity: Navigating the complexities of AR, which integrates both digital and physical realms, to deliver a cohesive experience.
Concept:
-
Metaphor: The frog as a symbol of human experience, a psychological dilemma of in-between, among digital and physical, art and tech, virtual and real, and increasing societal dichotomies. Froggy is a metaphor for us, viewing the film, a hope for the future.
-
Narrative: A frog manages to get out of its well to explore the world beyond, paving a new possible path for the future considering the existing extreme problems we are currently facing as a generation.
Design and Execution:
We were a team of 4, each making 4 physical frames, a chapter in a story. Each chapter discussed a point in a fictional manner, conveying the overall story in total of 16 physical frames. Each frame comes with a short animated video that can be viewed digitally, thanks to AR technology, accessed through custom-made Instagram filters. The plot reveals with each frame making the viewer interact and enjoy being the part of froggy's narrative while being the froggy themselves.

Technical Development:
We used various softwares and tools to develop this project - Procreate, Adobe premiere pro, Adobe after effects, Meta Spark AR, Instagram, Facebook, Google image search, QR Scanner etc.
Used popular social media platforms to ensure compatibility across diffrent devices instead of making them download a separate app to be able to experince our AR film.
Artistic Direction:
Explored different styles and medium to introduce the tech audience to an array of possibilities in art.
The 'amphibiousness' narrative, rooted in our time, aligned with the amphibious medium, AR, a possibility of our time.

Future Implications:
-
The #amphibian project highlighted the possibility of releasing the entire film through popular social media platforms or digital sites, where the narrative could be made more interactive and engaging than what we currently experience.
-
#amphibian also points out the existing limitations in AR technology, particularly regarding file size and duration. With the help of tech experts to overcome these issues, a new path for the future can be paved, just as Froggy wanted.
-
#amphibian, being a highly ambitious project, pushed both artists and techies out of their comfort zones to explore new ideas and challenge the existing limitations of their respective fields.
-
The character Froggy continues to address issues, ensuring to jump ahead before getting caught, which in itself serves as a solution to the current problems.
Some of the feedbacks we got to hear:
-
"I wish my son was here"
-
"Is there any way to show this to my daughter? I don't want her to miss this"
-
"Please, you HAVE TO let me know the next time you are exhibiting this"
-
"Can you guys conduct a workshop/seminar on art and technology?"
-
"Wow wow wow"
-
"How did you do this?" "Very good"
-
"A whole story?! Wow, Great!"
-
"I have never seen something like this before"
-
"Look here, this is ssssooooo beautiful"
